2. What is this website / blog about?
All content in this website is generally related to yoga, spirituality, Ayurveda, Vedic living and art. Jana Thevar and all authors whose works are featured on this site write from their personal experiences, including their own artistic and spiritual journeys.
3. What is Vedic Hatha Yoga?
Vedic Hatha Yoga is a style of classical hatha yoga which is strongly based on Vedic yoga and spiritual scriptures, including the Hatha Yoga Pradipika and the Patanjali sutras.

5. Do you conduct regular yoga classes?
We don’t conduct ‘regular’ yoga classes (classes that are continuous / ongoing on a regular basis). Our various yoga courses and programs are generally completed within a fixed time period and a set number of classes. For more information on upcoming courses, please click here.

7. Does the yoga you teach have elements of religion in it?
According to ancient Vedic scriptures, the knowledge of yoga is a spiritual practise rather than a purely physical one – yoga is a way of life and a mind set. Yogic knowledge was passed down from teacher to teacher in various lineages of ‘Guru Parampara’ (disciplic succession). As such, the original teachings of traditional hatha yoga is strongly rooted in Vedic scripture, as the originator of yoga is the Adi Yogi (Adi Guru) Himself.
Jana Thevar teaches two versions of Vedic Hatha Yoga:
a) Hatha Yoga which is solely made up of breathing exercises and asanas (yoga poses). This version of yoga DOES NOT include spiritual or religious elements, and is suitable for everyone.
b) Vedic Hatha Yoga which includes Sanskrit mantras, the use of spiritual beads (mala) and the study of Vedic scriptures. This version of yoga is suitable for those who wish to experience the full spectrum of spirituality that is part of the original, traditional form of hatha yoga.
8. I am: not flexible / unfit / have an old injury / pregnant / a new mother / an expecting mother / a patient with a health condition. Can I practise Vedic Hatha Yoga?
Generally, those who are not critically ill or severely disabled can practise hatha yoga to some extent. In most cases of substantial physical limitations, yoga asanas (poses) can be modified to suit the practitioner until his or her health has improved, or more physical mastery has been gained.
When in doubt, please consult a doctor before you attempt to learn yoga. As a safety measure, always notify your yoga instructor of any injuries or health conditions you have before you start your classes.
9. Are you a follower of a certain religion?
Jana is an omnist and spiritualist. She visits places of worship of all faiths regularly and participates in all types of religious and spiritual events. Although her teachings and written works are heavily based on Vedic scriptures, she does not conform to any particular organized religion or faith.
10. Are you a Hindu?
